There are several former Manchester United players who are currently pursuing their careers outside of Europe. One of them is Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ronaldo left Manchester United in November 2022. His contract was terminated by The Red Devils after a controversial interview with English journalist Piers Morgan.

After parting ways with Manchester United, Ronaldo continued his career in Saudi Arabia. The Portuguese star signed a contract with Al Nassr.

In addition to Ronaldo, there are several former Manchester United players now playing in various parts of the world after leaving Old Trafford. Who are they?

Here are seven former Manchester United players playing outside Europe.

  1. Jesse Lingard Jesse Lingard left Nottingham Forest last summer. The English attacking midfielder was linked to several European and Saudi Arabian clubs.

After six months of unemployment, Lingard finally returned to football this month. He signed a two-year contract with South Korean club FC Seoul.

The former Manchester United player is reported to earn only £17,500 per week in his new club according to Mail Sport. This amount is significantly smaller compared to his weekly salary at Old Trafford.

  1. Shinji Kagawa

Shinji Kagawa was once part of the Manchester United squad under Sir Alex Ferguson. The Japanese player played 57 games in all competitions, contributing six goals for the Red Devils.

Kagawa is currently playing in his home country. He returned to Japan last year and rejoined Cerezo Osaka.

Cerezo Osaka was Kagawa’s first club when he started his career. Even at the age of 34, Kagawa still knows how to impress on the field.

  1. Odion Ighalo Several former Manchester United players are now active in the Saudi Pro League, from Cristiano Ronaldo to Alex Telles. One lesser-known name still making waves is Odion Ighalo.

This Nigerian striker spent a short loan spell at Old Trafford. Ighalo moved to Saudi Arabia shortly after leaving Manchester United in 2021.

Ighalo now plays for mid-table club Al-Wehda after previously playing for Al-Shabab and Al-Hilal. He has been quite effective this season, scoring 10 goals in all competitions.

  1. Sergio Romero

Sergio Romero strengthened Manchester United from 2015 to 2021. The Argentine goalkeeper also won trophies like the Europa League, FA Cup, and others while being part of the Red Devils squad.

After leaving United in 2021, Romero enjoyed a brief stint with Venezia before returning to Argentina. The 36-year-old player is still strong as the number one goalkeeper for Boca Juniors.

Romero spent most of his career in Europe as a backup goalkeeper. Now, Romero plays more frequently than before in his later years.

  1. Gabriel Obertan Manchester United signed Gabriel Obertan from Bordeaux in 2009. The French winger was touted as the replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who had moved to Real Madrid.

Obertan’s career at Manchester United was short-lived. He only stayed for two years before being sold to Newcastle United.

After playing in various European leagues for several years, Obertan has now settled in the United States. Since 2021, he has been playing for Charlotte Independence in the third division of American soccer.

  1. Edinson Cavani
Boca Juniors seems to be a gathering place for former Manchester United players. In addition to Edinson Cavani and Sergio Romero, Marcos Rojo also plays for the Argentine giants.

In Cavani’s case, he moved to South America last summer. He arrived at Estadio Alberto J Armando on a free transfer.

In 18 appearances for his new club so far, the 36-year-old player has managed to score three goals.
